ELECTRODE SURF ACE EFFECTS ON UNIPOLAR CHARGE INJECTION IN COOLED LIQUID DIELECTRIC MIXTURES by
نویسندگان
چکیده
Previous investigations at NSWC, Dahlgren Laboratory, have established that anomalous voltage decay curves are observed for capacitors filled with cooled ethylene glycolwater dielectric mixtures. A unipolar charge injection model developed in conjunction with M. Zahn, et a!, at MIT correctly predicted experimental waveforms and yielded information on the quantity of charge injection and the mobility of the transported species. Experiments are described demonstrating the effects . of surface materials on the charge injection phenomenon, specifically electropolished, passivated stainless steel vs. untreated 304 stainless steel and cuprous oxide coatings vs. electrolytic copper. Analysis of the electrode surface effect is accomplished with the assistance of a computer model of the charge injection process that uses a hill climber routine to adjust physical parameters until the model matches the experimental behavior of the voltage decay curve.

Numerical Study of Electro-thermo-convection in a Differentially Heated Cavity Filled with a Dielectric Liquid Subjected to Partial Unipolar Injection
The Coulomb force applied by an electric field on any charge present in a dielectric liquid may cause fluid motion. At high applied electric fields in an insulating liquid, electric charge carriers are created at metallic/liquid interfaces, a process referred to as ion injection, and result from electrochemical reactions. In this article we deals with the problem of electro thermal convection i...
متن کاملTechnical Effects of Air Cooled Blast Furnace Slag on Asphalt Mixtures
Air cooled blast furnace slag is a by product made of gradually air cooled molten blast furnace slag and is often stored in stockpiles near the iron mills and usually occupy a wide area around the iron mills. From this perspective the further use of these materials can have its own merits. Air cooled blast furnace slag can be used in asphalt mixtures because of their proper frictional propertie...

Multidielectric polyethylene is a material that is generally employed as insulation for the HVDC isolations. In this paper, the influence of temperature on space charge dynamics has been studied, low-density polyethylene (LDPE) and Fluorinated Ethylene Propylene (FEP) sandwiched between two electrodes were subjected to voltage application of 5kV (14.3 kV/mm) for extended duration of time ...
متن کاملThe response of electrostatic probes via the - function
INTRODUCTION Throughout the 1980’s extensive studies were undertaken on the measurement of the surf ace charge which accumulates at a gaslspacer interface. In an attempt to quantify such charge, the majority of experimental studies employed small electrostatic field probes to scan across the dielectric surface. Owing to mechanical requirements, each probe consists essentially of a long cylindri...
متن کاملKeer electro-optic measurements in liquid dielectrics
Kerr electro-optic technique has been used to measure the electric field distribution in high voltage stressed dielectric liquids, where the difference between refractive indices for light polarized parallel and perpendicular to the local electric field is a function of the electric field intensity. For transformer oil, the most widely-used insulating liquids in power apparatus and high voltage...
